Ron Imhoff was raised in Miami Florida. As a young boy, he was surrounded by music. Sunday afternoon's were accompanied by Jazz on WLRN and it wasn't uncommon to occasionally receive a Wes Montgomery LP from Mom. Though intrigued by all genres of music including jazz, rock, symphonic, early electronic and others, he had no interest in playing a musical instrument until his early teen years. At the age of 13, he picked up an electric guitar after attending an awe inspiring performance of fellow classmates.
In the years that followed, much of his time was spent exploring the guitar. His playing style was influenced by a spectrum of guitarists from Pat Metheny to Randy Rhoads. As his playing style emerged, so did his compositional skills. He discovered that he was able to play other instruments easily and compositions involving multiple instruments soon followed. His abilities with sound opened many doors.
Following the purchase of his first multi-track recording system, his engineering skills developed. Recording sessions became the rule rather than the exception. The sessions sparked interest in additional instruments including bass and synthesizer. The introduction of the new instrumentation into the mix proved both intriguing, and at times, technically challenging. During a particular recording session, two incorrectly wired guitar effects resulted in a unique guitar sound that captured Ron's attention. The ensuing recording session yielded the first demo version of the song Solitude. This song has both new age and smooth jazz appeal.
On a whim, he sent the demo version of the song to WLVE in Miami, Florida where it gained the interest of New Directions in Music show host Billy Brown. Solitude aired on the New Directions show a number of times shortly thereafter. The success of Solitude cast him on a musical quest to expand on his current playing style and recording artistry.
Over the next year, the six song demo The Music of Imhoff was recorded and sent to twelve radio stations for feedback. The response of the stations was tremendous as 11 of the 12 stations favored and aired most or all of the tracks from the demo. The response generated by the demo CD inspired him to compose, record and produce his full length debut CD that is known today as Chemistry.
All tracks from the demo The Music of Imhoff became the basis for a larger effort. The production of the full length CD, Chemistry, introduced many challenges including planning, composing, recording, engineering, mixing, CD artwork, advertising, web site design and general business activities. In addition to playing all instruments, recording, engineering, and mixing the CD, Ron put his years of computer expertise to use when constructing the web site, and creating the CD artwork. Aided by the perseverance of his wife, Cherie, virtually all aspects of the creation of the CD and its marketing were handled internally.
Ron Imhoff's debut CD Chemistry is the culmination of years of musical composition, recording and relentless effort. His playing style on this collection of modern instrumental compositions ebbs and flows with the tide of the CD as a whole. His abilities as a composer and recording artist are unarguably present. Chemistry is the result of the artistry, imagination and inspiration that comes from within Ron Imhoff. The CD is a relaxing mix of compositions that combine ethereal guitar, orchestral strings, piano, bass and percussion combined with natural elements. Chemistry promises to relax and enlighten all who enjoy music.
